Hemp mats are not essential, but they will help you tremendously in creating the right compost conditions. The set of 5 hemp mats will last around 8-12 months depending on the condition of the compost.
 
The advantage of our P2 hemp mats: They are perfectly cut and are particularly suitable for worm composting.
 
Hemp mats from the pet trade can also be used. These are just mostly  a little too tight as they are specially made for rodents and don't cut well.
 
Here is a short list of their abilities:
 
- Darken everything
- Are extremely oxygen permeable
- Can absorb and release moisture
- Are edible for the bacteria and compost worms and are therefore wonderful when you want to go on vacation
